Zanzibar
Zanzibar consists of the main island of Unguja (also called
'Zanzibar'), Pemba and several smaller islands. From North to South it is 95 km, and the islands are situated 35 km from the mainland. Zanzibar is also known as the
Spice Islands and is world famous for its production of cloves. From the exotic Stone Town, with
its fascinating labyrinth of narrow streets and palm trees, the island
provides a change of atmosphere and a more relaxed life than on the
Tanzania mainland. One can visit the House of Wonder, the Old Fortress
or the Cathedral which is built over the old slave market. There is a boat trip to
Prison Island - also known for its large land turtles. In the evening you can stroll
through the Foradani food market.
“A voyage to a destination, wherever it may be is also a voyage inside oneself.”
