Mount Kilimanjaro
The highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro (5 892
meters) rises up from the open plain in the north of Tanzania close to
the Kenya border. The top Uhuru peak is covered with snow despite its
location of only 3 degrees south of the equator. The mountain is also
the highest one can reach on foot. On such a trip it is essential to
bring winter clothing and good climbing boots. The trip takes 5 days, and
the climb passes through wonderful nature with fantastic views over the African plains. The mountain is a
dormant volcano and distant volcanic activity can be clearly heard through smoke holes in the crater.
“In the highlands you woke in the morning and thought here I am, where I ought to be.” Karen Blixen, Out of Africa
